St. Francois County Missouri Skywarn

Welcome to the St. Francois County Mo Skywarn Net page. Our goal is to provide a service to the community and to the National Weather Service (NWS). Radar technology has advanced beyond our wildest dreams but there is still a need for input from Storm Spotters and the Community as to what individual Storm cells are producing. That is where we come into place. We use the Amateur Radio Community and trained Spotters to gather information during Severe Weather Events and forward that information to the NWS and Government entities. A list of Frequencies is listed on this site in which Emergency Weather Nets are conducted. When a Weather Watch is issued it will be announced on these frequencies and if a Severe Weather Warning is issued, Spotters will be deployed and an Emergency Weather Net will be activated until the threat of Severe Weather has passed the area or the Warning has expired. Most reports are gathered from those unfortunate enough to be in the impact location of the Severe Weather. Nobody is ever asked or expected to put theirselves in harms way to provide information. Our goal is to not only serve St. Francois County but the surrounding Counties as well during these times. Primary Net Control is ai0u but other control operators will be utilized by their availability at the time of the Severe Weather Event. We will try to be as informative as possible here and list any information we feel may be helpful to you but if you need further information please feel free to contact us or if you would like to become a member of our Spotter Group. We hope to have a mild storm season and not be needed but will train and prepare for the worst.

  Topic One

During any Severe Weather Event your personal safety should be your primary concern. Seek Shelter as quick as possible to avoid personal injury. The NWS nor the parties involved never suggest or condone actual Storm Chasing, leave that to the Professionals!!

  Topic Two

These services are provided on a voluntary basis and only when conditions allow reporting without placing yourself in harms way. You should never feel the need to report an Event if it is not safe. With an efficient network of Spotters such as we have rest assured there will be someone in a safer place to report the same event normally.
